Journey Into Womanhood is a rites of passage program, designed for girls ages 9-17. This unique and inspiring program cultivates young ladies in their “Journey into Womanhood”, in addition to increasing their self-awareness, leadership development and understanding of twelve vital aspects of life which includes:

  • The Value of SELF
    understanding the need to love thyself
  • Drug and Alcohol Prevention
    the effects of drug and alcohol abuse
  • Concepts of Beauty
    how to care for self, what is beauty, personal hygiene
  • "A" is for Academics
    proper study habits, college preparation, and public speaking
  • Health & Fitness
    the importance of exercise & maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Relationships/Social Skills
    respecting elders, understanding friendships, and
    developing social skills
  • Our Society
    social constructs, racism and prejudice,
    respect for other cultures
  • Food & Nutrition
    healthy ways of eating and how to select nutritious foods
  • Employment and Career Skills
    preparing for success, develop a resume,
    get the career you want
  • Community Building
    the importance of giving back by volunteering
  • Abstinence/STD prevention
    the pros of waiting, how to avoid risky behavior
  • Investments and Savings
    the difference and importance between the two

Each topic is presented in a workshop setting with a core outline of areas to be covered. Most workshops are presented by local community agencies and or business that have expertise in these areas. In April JIW has an annual charity scholarship banquet where the participants showcase their talents, etiquette and leadership skills to the community.

The JIW program is open to girls’ 9-17 years of age. Sessions are conducted every other Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. with the exception of some field trips/special events and or community service projects.
